Aldi Lacura Polishes

A few weeks ago when my parents were in town we visited one of the Aldi grocery stores. I actually knew a bit about Aldi beforehand. In my business class spring semester I did a project on the world's top 10 billionaires and #10 is Karl Albrecht the creator of Aldi. Aldi I must say is a very strange store. There absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it's not your typical grocery store. It has the feel of a Sam's or Costco but maybe 1/8th of the size. The stuff there is very cheap and you can buy stuff in bulk with the exception of makeup.

Aldi has their own skincare beauty line called Lacura which is made in Germany. Now, if you've been to a place like Sam's they don't have things nicely organized on racks and shelves like Target etc. Everything is pretty much stacked on top of each other. They had a selection of probably 5-6 nail polishes. They were very standard colors nude, black, red, shimmery pink, and etc. They were nothing exciting whatsoever, but I think they were $1.50 each so I figured since it's brand I've never tried before it wouldn't hurt to just test it out for fun.

First of something funny I found about these polishes is they were individually boxed. I got 2 colors Sweet Pink & Rum Raisin.

Rum Raisin
I'd describe Rum Raisin as a nude mauvey pink creme.  It's a pretty straight forward color. Not much else to explain here. It's nice color, but nothing to rave about. :P

Sweet Pink
Sweet Pink is definitely more interesting. It's a sheer golden pink shimmer. This was 3 coats. I kind of like it as a sheer, but it may look better layered over something. I really like this color, but it's far from unique in my opinion. I think I've seen this shade in pretty much any brand.

Overall, I like these polishes, but I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase the others. If I hadn't been in the area near Aldi I wouldn't of really gone to go get these. That all being said it's neat to be able to purchase a foreign brand here even if it isn't the most exciting of colors. It's nice to try new brands that are unheard of, so I don't regret the purchase at all. I can't imagine reaching to use these colors, but it's a nice addition to my collection. I hope that all makes sense. :P

Have you ever visited an Aldi store? Have you tried any of the Lacura cosmetics or nail polish?

Happy Sunday!

  1. I think that you're right, Sweet Pink would look really pretty layered over something. It kind of reminds me of a Sinful Colors shade that I have but haven't ever worn, I can't remember the name of it. The duochrome is a little more green than gold on it though :)

  2. Sweet Pink would be fab over black or a deep blue... :D

Aldi doesn't exist in my area, tho I have heard of it.

  3. My family buys a lot of groceries at Aldi, so I've been there loads of times. I've seen the nail polish, but never bought any because the colors don't stand out to me.

  6. Aldi? In the US? How interesting and funny for someone living in Germany to hear about that. :)
Here Aldi is (one of) the biggest discount grocery stores and almost everyone buys there, at least sometimes.
