HPB Presents: Halloween Mani (Heather's Hues Killer Costume Party)

I have a review of another Heather's Hues polishes today which also happens to be my Halloween mani I'm wearing today. This has to be one of the coolest nail polishes I've tried this year and probably one of the top ones I've tried ever. I don't see magic like this too often these days. This was the nail polish I got out of bed to polish a couple of weeks ago. I think you all will agree.

Killer Costume Party (over a black creme)
Killer Costume Party is a clear base and is packed with iridescent chameleon glitters, iridescent color-shift flakes, and multichrome flakes in violet/red/orange and red/copper/bronze.

Collection: Heather's Hues Haunted Collection 2016

Color: Wowza! That is some magical polish! There is some much colorful multichrome and color-shiftness going on. I make less and less sense the more amazing the nail polish. This is a stunner and so unique and magical in my collection.

Formula: Excellent easy to apply formula. I used 2 coats over a black creme. I love this layered it really pops!

Price: This is $10 for a 15ml bottle or $5.75 for 7.5ml bottle on Heather's Hues etsy page.

Overall: Sneak peak! This will be one of my Top 25 of 2016 polishes. This is probably my favorite polish of the year. I love everything about it. How could you not? Everyone needs this one. Get it!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 *Golden* Paint Splatters

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 10/23/16-10/30/16

Where did time go? I needed to start melting through my fall scents now because it will be holiday melting time before you know it. I did get through some fall scents this week and it was overall a fairly good wax week!
ScentSationals Ginger Pumpkin
Scent Description: N/A
My Thoughts: This is basically pumpkin spice on steroids. It's a lot spicier than your average pumpkin spice. I detect ginger and a lot more cinnamon. It's a great scent. I really like it. Despite the cupcake photo on the front, I only get a hint of a bakery note going on. It's really just an extra spicy pumpkin spice.
Scent Throw: 4.5/5
Where To Buy: ScentSationals

Ten Digit Creations Pomegranate & Juniper Berry
Scent Description: tart pomegranate is softened by the earthy aroma of fresh juniper berries
My Thoughts: This is more of a holiday scent to me than fall, but that really doesn't matter. It's a very juicy pomegranate note with earthy and airy notes added to it. It's a really nice scent. I'm a fan of fruity wintery scents like this one. The throw was decent, but it faded fairly quickly.
Scent Throw: 2.5/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Wilma's Barbershop
Scent Description: The nostalgic fragrance of shaving cream with maybe a touch of aftershave.
My Thoughts: The description is right. This smells just like plain shaving creme. It's a soft and very soapy clean scent. There isn't anything really overly strong or masculine about this. It's just shaving cream. I really enjoyed this scent. I'll be needing more.
Scent Throw: 3.5/5
Where To Buy: Wilma's Shop

Ten Digit Creations Pumpkin Honey Chai
Scent Description: creamy pumpkin, black chai, vanilla, milk, and honey
My Thoughts: The description on this one is not right in my opinion. This smells like pumpkin, butter, and salt. An obscene amount of salt. This scent is so salty to me! It's not bad, but it's not anything I really could handle for a long period of time. It's like a pumpkin cookie buried in 4ft of salt. It's weird, don't I dont totally hate it. It just needs to be 90% less salty and 90% more honey and chai. I get the slightest bit of chai from this but no honey at all.
Scent Throw: 4.5/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Sinful Colors Where Oh Werewolf?

I guess it's only Sinful Colors we can really rely on these days for drugstore nail polish. Most of their collections are repromotes or repeats, but they do throw a new shade here and there on occasion. One of the new shades I spotted in their Halloween collection recently was this Walgreens exclusive.

Where Oh Werewolf?
Where Oh Werewolf is a medium gray with a silvery glass fleck shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Halloween 2016 Walgreens Exclusive

Color: This a very saturated and creamy gray base color. I love the opacity of this gray and I adore this glass fleck shimmer. It really pairs nicely with this color and gives it some interest.

Formula: I had my doubts before I even opened this bottle. I thought this was going to be a sheer color that needed 5 coats to look right or would have to be layered. I was wrong. This is a very opaque color. The formula on this was phenomenal especially considering the price tag. I used 2 coats.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: This is a winning polish for me. It ticks all the boxes of great polish and the best part is the price. It's hard to find polishes with this type of shimmer and formulated so nicely for only $1.99. This could easily be a $9-$10 indie. Its polishes like these that give me hope that drugstores and mainstream brands might start to reignite themselves. I truly miss being able to shop in store for great nail polish and find them at a great price. This one is a keeper!

Heather's Hues Halloween Magic

I have a new to me brand to share with you today. I came across Heather's Hues when it was posted in FB group about a month ago. I was in bed getting ready to go to sleep and I checked my FB and some of her Halloween colors popped up. It was one of the very rare instances where something got me out of bed to buy! I purchased two colors from that collection and I have one of those to show you today.

Halloween Magic (over orange creme)
Halloween Magic is clear base packed with iridescent chameleon glitters that shift from green to red to orange to yellow, copper holo microglitters, and bronze and gold microflakes.

Collection: Heather's Hues Haunted Collection 2016

Color: I love iridescent glitter and it's not really visited much in nail polish lately. I love the dimension of this polish with microglitter and flakes. I like the autumn color scheme of this glitter too.

Formula: Easy to use formula. I used one coat over a base above. This is buildable, but I found it looked better layered in my case.

Price: This is $9.50 for a 15ml bottle or $5.75 for a 7.5ml on Heather's Hues etsy site.

Overall: This is a gorgeous iridescent glitter. I love the colors of the all the glitters and elements that go into this polish. It gives it interest and makes it unique. I also love that it's iridescent glitter which isn't something I see a lot in nail polish anymore.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 10/9/16-10/23/16

This is more like a review of wax over the past 2 weeks. Last week, I caught a cold. I couldn't smell anything for a week, so I skipped last week's post. My sense of smell returned this past Thursday, so I have 2 waxes pre-cold and 2 waxes post-cold to share with you today.
Lake Providence Lodge Lovely Grace
Scent Description: This is a duplication of a famous actress’ fragrance although I think it smells also like another fancy line’s shower gel and lotion. So, I combined the name! This scent is for those who love clean, fresh and slightly floral scents.
My Thoughts: This smells like Philosophy's Amazing Grace scent. It's a lovely feminine, perfume-like scent that is soft and pleasant. I love this scent as it has a more sophisticated touch, but it's still a clean scent. I really enjoyed this one.
Scent Throw: 3.5/5
Where To Buy: Lake Providence Lodge

Yankee Candle Crisp Fall Night
Scent Description: The autumn evening invites with brisk earthiness and dreamy interludes of lavender and woodland notes.
My Thoughts: This is a soft woodsy scent. I go through phases of loving woodsy scents and not being able to stomach them. This one is nice because it's a softer scent. It's not overbearingly woodsy. I definitely get the lavender and woodsy vibe going on and it works well. Yankee Candle wax tarts are known to be really light in throw, this one is light-medium, but it works for a scent like this. I don't think I'd want it to be stronger.
Scent Throw: 2.5/5
Where To Buy: Yankee Candle

Lake Providence Lodge Chamomile & Lavender
Scent Description: Sweet, calming chamomile is blended with an herbal lavender creating a relaxing and clean scent.
My Thoughts: Chamomile and lavender blends are probably my absolute favorite and this one delivers. It's the perfect soothing, cozy, and relaxing scent I want when it's bedtime or I just need to relax. It's soft, clean, and powdery. I love the throw on this one too, it's strong unlike similar blends from other vendors.
Scent Throw: 4/5
Where To Buy: Lake Providence Lodge

Wilma's Bonfire Bliss
Scent Description: Roasting marshmallows at a bonfire!
My Thoughts: I'm guessing this is a dupe to BBW Marshmallow Fireside. I have a Marshmallow Fireside candle and I do detect some differences. Bonfire Bliss I can't help but get a weird coconut note from it, it's not as marshmallowy or smoky as the BBW. It's a nice scent, but not exactly what I wanted from it.
Scent Throw: 3/5
Where To Buy: Wilma's Shop

Fall Fun Series: Halloween Decorations

Today's topic for the Fall Fun Series is Halloween decorations. I wish I really could go all out with Halloween decorating, but as I explained in my fall decor post I'm really limited on space. Space to decorate and space to store decorations. I manage best, by keeping my fall decor inside the same and breaking out the Halloween decorations for outside.

I live in an apartment, but I live on the third floor. I like to give out candy to Trick or Treaters, but it's hard to convince kids to want to walk up three flights of stairs for candy. I do my best to decorate my balcony to let the kiddos know that I have candy and it's worth the trip up the stairs!

These are my balcony decorations.....
The glitter Halloween sign, pumpkins, and owl all came from Dollar Tree. The witch cat wind sock came from Walmart. The purple rope lights and orange light came from Target. The lights are super bright, and our apartment faces the parking lot, so it definitely makes a statement!

I also have these decorations on my front door...
The Trick or Treat sign came from Target. The "Boo!" sign came from Walmart. My glitter pumpkin and owl came from Big Lots. The pumpkin sign came from Dollar Tree. I wish I could do more with my front door with lights and such, but there isn't an electrical outlet out there, and they're pretty strict on how much decoration can go by our front doors.

If I had more time, space, and money I'd love to do more. I'd love to decorate inside too, but that's not going to happen right now. I just hope we get trick or treaters this year. In 2013 and 2014 we had tons of kids stop by, but last year we hardly had any. I'm hoping that was because Halloween fell on a Saturday last year and I know people tend to go out if it doesn't fall on a school night. I'm hoping with Halloween on a Monday night this year we'll get trick or treaters!

Throwbacks Week: KBShimmer Kiss And Spell

Are you all ready for Halloween? I'm all decorated but have nothing planned for Halloween itself. Most likely, I'll just be passing out candy to the kiddos. I did that last year, but we hardly had any trick or treaters which was depressing. We had several in previous years, and I just wonder if because Halloween fell on a Saturday last year some people went out rather than stick to the neighborhood? I hope we get our usual crowd this year as Halloween will be on a Monday. Speaking of Halloween, I have a Halloween throwback to share with you today from KBShimmer!

Kiss and Spell (over KBShimmer Hugs & Wishes)
Kiss And Spell is a Halloween-themed glitter with a mix of yellow, black, orange, purple, and green glitters in varying shapes in a clear base.

Collection: KBShimmer Fall 2014

Color: This is a great Halloween mix of colors and shapes. I love how Halloween colors have expanded from just black and orange and now include purple, green, and in this case yellow.

Formula: This formula was easy to apply over a base. I used 2 coats.

Price: N/A. Discontinued.

Overall: This is a fun glitter topper. I enjoy the color, shape, and size variation of the glitters in this polish. Glitter toppers are not really a thing anymore, but revisiting polishes like this make me miss them. I may have to break this one out for my Halloween nails this year!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 *Golden* Paint Splatters

Throwbacks Week: Beautifully Disney Diva of the Deep

A few years ago Disney had their own makeup line called Beautifully Disney that was sold at Disney Parks. It was a high-end makeup line and it really offered a lot of great products with perfectly Disney themed seasonal collections. Unfortunately, the line only lasted two years 2013-2015 and was discontinued due to poor sales. I was bummed out by this because the line offered nail polish. I have one of those polishes to share with you today from their first release of the Beautifully Disney line inspired by Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

Diva of the Deep
Diva of the Deep is a deep purple with a pink-purple shimmer.

Collection: Beautifully Disney Wickedly Beautiful Summer 2013

Color: This color is so rich and saturated. I love rich jewel-toned shades like these. The pink-purple shimmer inside this polish really makes it glow from within. You really can't go wrong with a purple shade like this one.

Formula: Excellent smooth and creamy 2 coat formula.

Price: N/A. Discontinued.

Overall: This is a beautiful and classic nail polish color. Everyone needs a color like this in their collection, and thankfully while this color is beautiful it's not a rare color. This reminds me of Zoya Yasmeen, which is still available. This was a beautiful color with a great formula and I certainly miss this Disney beauty line!

Throwbacks Week: Milani Gracious Green

It's time for another week of throwbacks! I came across this Milani texture polish while rearranging my nail polish stash this past weekend. I'd say the texture trend has come and gone, but I know Zoya is still making PixieDusts for the upcoming holiday season? I don't think textures are really on trend now, but they're still out there. I never really got into the trend myself, outside of a handful of colors. This Milani one is really interesting. I'm not sure I love it, but I'm intrigued by it enough to give it a second go.

Gracious Green
Gracious Green is a sage textured green creme.

Collection: Milani Fall Textured Cremes 2013

Color: I like the color of this polish. I love sage greens in fall and this color is really flattering for me. It actually makes me wish I had more sage green polishes! The texture I'm not so sure about. It has that stucco wall type texture. It's certainly unusual and I kind of like, but kind of don't at the same time? I don't make sense!

Formula: I used 2 coats for this polish and it applied nicely.

Price: N/A. This is no longer available.

Overall: I'm so on the fence on this polish. I really don't hate it, and I kind of love it, but still not sure about it either! It's a great color I think that's why I love about it most, but that texture is just odd. It's definitely a unique polish in my collection that's for sure.

Sinful Colors Nice Guise

Sinful Colors notoriously has good Halloween and holiday collections. Sinful Colors is pretty much the only brand in the drugstore these days creating interesting nail polish even that is few and far between. I was happy to spot some cool colors in their recent Halloween collection. This one caught my eye.

Nice Guise
Nice Guise is a deep blue jelly with green, blue, and gold glass fleck glitters.

Collection: Sinful Colors Halloween 2016

Color: This is an impressive color for Sinful Colors! This color is rich, deep, but still vibrant. What I was worried about was that this color being dark would look black on the nails. Nope, this is definitely blue and that sparkle pops!

Formula: This had a great formula. It was easy to use and applied nicely. I used 2 coats here.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: Great polish by Sinful Colors! The color is great and interesting. The formula is good and it's only $1.99!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

ILNP Chleo

It seems like indies are starting to venture into the nude and neutral polish territory lately too. I was really excited when I saw ILNP was creating some fall neutrals as part of their fall collection. Indie really are not well known for colors like these, but I'm happy they're coming around to them because I have more options and better ones. We know indies tend to be more creative with colors than mainstream brands! I have the shade Chleo from the recent ILNP fall collection to share with you today.

Chleo
Chleo is a soft blush pink jelly that features a gorgeously delicate holographic sparkle.

Collection: ILNP Fall Neutrals Collection Fall 2016

Color: This is one of those "your nails but better shades". I love the softness of this shade and how it just enhances the look of my natural nails. The holo sparkle on this is just right. It provides the right amount of glimmer while still maintaining a clean and soft look.

Formula: Excellent jelly formula. I used 3 coats above. It was easy to apply and smooth.

Price: This is $10.00 on the ILNP website.

Overall: Chleo is a gorgeous shade and it definitely is satisfying my nude/neutral polish obsession right now. It's a very flattering shade and gives you the perfect clean and chic look to your nails. The sparkle is just right and the formula is on point.

Fall Fun Series: Pumpkin Polishes + Melts

Today's theme for the Fall Fun Series is pumpkin! I decided with this theme I'd show you some of my favorite pumpkin-colored nail polishes. I must admit orange is really not my favorite color. I don't own a lot of orange polishes, but when October rolls around I do break some out. Here is a collage of some of my favorite pumpkiny nail colors!

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 10/2/16-10/9/16

This was an OK wax week. I really had only one standout scent and the rest were just alright. I'm hoping this next week will be better. I'm still trying not to overdo it on fall scents, but for some reasons even when I do only one a week I'm not too keen on them. I wish I didn't burn out so fast.
Ten Digit Creations Autumn Daze
Scent Description: fallen leaves, fresh air, and a stroll through the woods
My Thoughts: This was my standout scent of the week. I love this outdoorsy fall scent. It's fresh airy, green, with hints of apple, and just the tiniest bit smokiness. It's really the perfect fall scent for someone like me who prefers clean and fresh scents. It has those elements of fall without going into stereotypical fall scent territory.
Scent Throw: 4/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Wilma's Fake Clean
Scent Description: The smell of a freshly cleaned house!
My Thoughts: This is not what I wanted it to be. I was hoping for a Pine-Sol or bleach-type scent. I know that's not appealing to most, but when I think fake clean that's what I think. I like that type of scent. This is not that. It almost reminds me of a beachy sand scent with some sweet lemon. It has a sweetness to it that puts me off. Not my idea of fake clean, but clearly someone else's! The throw wasn't great either.
Scent Throw: 1.5/5
Where To Buy: Wilma's Shop

Ten Digit Creations Apple Harvest
Scent Description: juicy apples with a touch of spice
My Thoughts: This is your standard apple spice scent. It's a nice scent, but I had to take it out after a half an hour. It was just too strong and was giving me a headache. I don't see this scent being really any different than the countless other varieties of this same scent either. I don't hate this scent, but it was just too much for me.
Throw: 4/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Colonial Candle Cranberry Comso
Scent Description: Cheers to the cocktail-inspired fragrance of tart cranberry with a touch of citrus. Top : Lemon Zest, Sweet Orange - Middle : Cranberry, Raspberry - Bottom : Creamy Milk
My Thoughts: This is nice cranberry scent, it's not too sweet or too tart. It's not the most exciting scent I've tried. It's OK. I don't hate it and don't love it. I have other cranberry scents I like better, but this one is nice.
Throw: 3.5/5
Where To Buy: Discontinued

OPI Don't Bossa Nova Me Around

If you've been reading my blogs lately you know I've mentioned I'm on a nude/neutral polish kick. I've never really been into polishes these for an extended period of until now. I'm still in it, though I've been venturing into more colors lately. I picked this OPI shade up recently in the midst of my new nude polish obsession and I'm kicking myself for not getting it before.

Don't Bossa Nova Me Around
Don't Bossa Nova Me Around is a creamy pinky-toned nude creme.

Collection: OPI Brazil Spring/Summer 2014

Color: The trickiest part about nudes and why I used to shy away from them was because it's hard to find flattering nude shades for my skin tone. I need colors that are either beige or have some pink in them. If they veer anywhere into yellow territory it's a no go. This is a great nude. It is so flattering and such a fresh and chic color.

Formula: This had a good formula. It was easy to apply. I used 2 coats.

Price: This is part of OPI's core line now and it can be purchased in stores for around $10, but try to find a steal on e-tailer!

Overall: I'm really happy I came across this polish. This is such a great nude color and it maybe my favorite I own. I love the clean look of this color and how it flatters my skin tone. I think this is a must have polish in my book. Did I mention I love Bossa Nova music? It's one of my favorites. I'm often typing up blog posts to the Bossa Nova station on Pandora.

DazzleGlaze Throne of Hades

I don't know how it's already October. I feel like we just celebrated New Year's only like 3 or 4 months ago. Not! It will be 2017 before we know it. October is definitely one of my favorite months. I think I enjoy Halloween more now than I did as a kid. I have so much fun decorating and I don't remember decorating for Halloween being a thing when I was younger. I decorating is certainly something that has come about more so in recent years. I have a Halloween-ish polish to share with you today from DazzleGlaze.

Throne of Hades
Throne of Hades is a black jelly base with metallic red and gold glitter throughout.

Collection: DazzleGlaze Greek Underworld Collection Fall 2014

Color: This is a great jelly glitter. It's hard to find black jelly glitters that work. Usually, I see glitters get drowned out by the dark base, but this is not the case with Throne of Hades. I love the mix of red and gold glitter in this, it gives this shade some vibrancy and bejeweled look.

Formula: The formula was a little bit on the thick side but manageable. I used 3 coats here.

Price: The 15ml size is $9.50 and a 7.5ml size is $6.00 on DazzleGlaze's site.

Overall: I really like this shade. It's perfect for the season and great take on a black jelly polish I really haven't seen done this well. I love the blend of colors and the richness of the glitters.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 9/25/16-10/2/16

It's been a pretty good wax week. I don't have any major complaints. I can tell you it's only the beginning of October and I can sense I'm over pumpkin smells. I haven't melted any new ones this week, so they won't be in this review, but I did melt some older ones and I had to turn them off quickly because I was done. I think I need a take a week off pumpkin and hope I can reignite my love for it before the pumpkin seasons is over. Anyways, here is the new stuff I melted this week.
Lake Providence Lodge Fancy Salon
Scent Description: You know the one. The moment you walk up to the door, the botanical smells entice you in. This oil is the scent of their famous, most PURE shampoo. Comprised of multiple flower and plant essences. Clean and relaxing just like a day at a high-end spa.
My Thoughts: Do I know the one? I don't know? The only shampoo vendor scent I see often is Aveda's Shampure, this doesn't smell like that to me though. I have some Shampure scents and they're very herbal, this smells a lot softer and more frilly than herbal. I like it the scent a lot, but I'm entirely sure what I'm smelling. It's a very floral, herbal, feminine scent, but I can't be more descriptive than that.
Scent Throw: 3.5/5
Where To Buy: Lake Providence Lodge

Ten Digit Creations Orange Peel
Scent Description: sweet oranges freshly peeled
My Thoughts: This smells like oranges, and the scent description is correct with "sweet". There is something slightly sugary about this scent. It's not overly sweet though. I'd say it's about 75% natural scent outside that sweeter note. I wish it was 100% pure orange scent. It's not bad. I don't dislike it, but I wish it had a hint more tang to it rather than more sweet. Also, the throw was fairly weak after only an hour of melting.
Scent Throw: 2.5/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Ten Digit Creations Lavender Apple
Scent Description: soft lavender and a mix of juicy apples
My Thoughts: I'm not the biggest apple scent fan. I like the scent, but I don't need to be immersed in apple scent if you catch my drift. This scent is an excellent blend and makes me appreciate the apple scent without being enveloped in it. This is 50/50 soft herbal lavender and apple. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. It's a very fresh scent and a great clean scent with some fall-like touches.
Scent Throw: 4/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Lake Providence Lodge Autumn Spice
Scent Description: True cinnamon mixed with kitchen spices. A cozy and comforting spice blend.
My Thoughts: This is the quintessential fall craft store scent. This is cinnamon brooms and pinecones. This is strong cinnamon scent with hints of other spices. It's very natural and had an excellent throw. I loved this one.
Scent Throw: 4.5/5
Where To Buy: Lake Providence Lodge
