Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure Part MCMXCIX

Last year, Hidden Treasure was all over the blogs, including mine. I think Hidden Treasure may of wore out its welcome to many of us, and we slowly let it disappear from our blogs to make room for newer things. Hidden Treasure, though it was out of sight on the blog, was never out of mind. I think Hidden Treasure is definitely my go-to "I'm bored of this mani, but I'm too lazy to change it" 1 minute manicure miracle. I use this polish a lot. I've made it halfway through my bottle.

Here are two manicures I've loved recently.

SH Hidden Treasure over Maybelline Goody Plum Drop

SH Hidden Treasure over Zoya Danielle
I absolutely love Hidden Treasure over lighter colors. I love it so much more over these colors than darker ones. In fact, Hidden Treasure over a sheer color like Zoya Danielle is my favorite "cleanse the palette" look.

There is something so whimsical about this combination. You know what it reminds me of? You remember the Beanie Baby craze? Remember that Beanie Baby called "Magic" it was a white dragon, and the fabric of its wings had this opalescence? It looks nearly identical to how Hidden Treasure looks over these colors. I know weird reference, but that's probably where I get the whimsy and ethereal idea.

Also, this is how nutty I am, but if Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" painting was real, I'd imagine everything to be covered in Hidden Treasure. I know that sounds bizarre, but hopefully some of you will get it. I think aspects like that make a great nail polish color. Sure, in the end it's just nail polish, but when you an correlate the color to a memory or something inspiring or meaningful to you it makes the color extra special.

If you haven't been able to find Hidden Treasure, Nubar 2010 is a great alternative.

What are your favorite colors to layer Hidden Treasure over?

  1. I like Hidden Treasure over just about any color.  When I wore it over a neutral beige, my husband said it looked "antique".

  2. I have Nubar 2010 and I've gone through about 2/3rds of it now.  I need another one! LOL.
My fav colors to layer over? Almost everything...I recently did a pedi with Orly Space Cadet and put 2010 on top of it...it made Space Cadet a million times better(even though it's already awesome).  I couldn't bear to remove it for three weeks(I usually redo pedis weekly).

  3. I love flakies!!! I wish I had more of them, I have HT and I got the last bottle on sale over at my local walgreens. I also have Colorama Shimmer Girl and blazes of blue. Flakies over lighter colors makes me think of fairies, fantasy for some strange reason. Also HT changes the color of darker np's. I want to get the flakies from Nfu-Oh but the price tag right now is bit too much.

  4. Is there anything HT *doesn't* look good over?  I love your comment about The Birth of Venus being covered in HT.  I really like the subtlety of HT over Danielle.  Very pretty!

  8. I love both combos.  I really love layering flakies over light colors.  I like the subtle softness and glow it adds to it.  Actually...I like to add flakies to any color.  I do that too- adding it to spruce up a mani. :)

  10. Stephanie, have you tried this over a mint green? Since you like it over softer colors, that was one of my favorite combos. My other favorites were actually over OPI Jade Is The New Black and Suzi Says Feng Shui!
