Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Eyes

*Be forewarned--I'm sharing my own candid experience below.

There is nothing more infuriating than spending a lot of money on something you don't like. I've had almost 5 years of experience with nail polish. I have probably over 1,200 bottles. I know my nail polish. I know what I like. I know what's worth the money. I know what is good and what is bad. When I buy something that sucks, and throw down too much money for it, it makes me feel like a complete donkeys behind. I should of know better, and that's what makes me not like this polish even more.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Eyes
Mermaid's Eyes is a frosty light blue with gold micro-glitter, and blue sequined glitter.

Color: This overly frosted blue has completely drowned out all the other beautiful aspects of this polish. Where is the gold micro glitter and blue sequined glitter? Oh, it's just hiding behind Mimi from The Drew Carey Show's eyeshadow. The color of this polish isn't ugly, but they ruined it by making it a frosty mess. Worst of all, I should of been smart enough to realize this based on how it looked in the bottle.

Formula: The formula on this applies nicely and smoothly. I'll give it that!

Price: I got this for $19.00 at Nordstroms. $19.00 I could of spent buying 2-3 other nail polishes, a nice dinner, personalized Mickey Mouse ears, or 2 hamsters from the pet store. I can think of countless other things I would of preferred! If I had paid $8.00 I still wouldn't have liked it, but would of been able to blow it off. $19.00 is just a hard pill to swallow.

Overall: I will say some of you will like this. I've read reviews where people like this.  If this had been like the other mermaid polishes in this collection where the base didn't overshadow the details I would of liked it too. I just don't do blue frosty messes for $19.00. I'm sorry. You lose! Good day sir!

My Rating: 0 out of 5 Paint Splatters
Happy Thursday!

  1. It sucks that the polish was such a mess. I love this post so much. I was giggling through the whole thing. Hamsters may be harder to collect than polish :) Thanks for the honest review. Mermaids Dream is probably my favorite polish ever so I'm sad that this one is so terrible.

  2. Lol! Yeah a $19 bad polish buy IS a hard pill to swallow. Personally of the Mermaid's Dream Collection this one was my least favorite of the bunch. I bought Mermaid's Kiss which was pretty and the formula was lovely. But I was pretty "meh" about it on me and didn't think I would ever wear it again. A $19 single wear purchase stings a bit too. I wound up selling it in my blog sale.

  3. Ugh, this is pretty gross. I am not a fan of frosty/shimmery bases with glitter and this is a prime example of why.

  4. Honestly, no polish is worth that much to me. I love nail polish, but I have my limits. I don't really like frosty polishes, so this one would be a no go for me anyway.

  5. This is such a sad story. I have a DL Mermaid dupe from Charlotte Russe which I totally love which made me look at these. I don't think they have the same depth so I kept walking. Although the purple was pretty. In the bottle. Meh. Show me more with the crazy pigment the original had.

  6. I'm totally with you. Remember me complaining about this one to you? I wish I'd gotten the purple one instead. Now it's too late because we sent them back to the vendor and I'm not buying it without my discount. :(

  7. Thank you for your honesty Steph! That is too pricey to be such a let down.

  9. I love Mermaid's Dream. I'm so disappointed this wasn't similar to that, it would of been stunning.

  10. Yeah, I think I'm going to try to swap it for something or put it in a blog sale.

  12. I am the same. frosty shimmers and glitters negate each other to me.

  17. I agree, Amanda! I'd rather wait until Urban Outfitters or Revlon dupe her.. Formula may be iffy, but it saves me a lot of money that I can spend on more polishes! :D
