Models Own Tropical Sun

I'm channeling a bit of OPI A Color to Diner For here. I impulsively bought this along with  Models Own Indian Ocean when they released more Beetlejuice colors. I  really hate it. It's certainly not as ugly as OPI A Color to Diner For, but I certainly have more buyers remorse from it because I bought this from the UK and paid a lot of shipping for it. This color just did not cut if or me at all. I'm very disappointed.

Tropical Sun

Tropical Sun if a coral-pink with a golden-yellow shimmer and random silver glitters.

This is a mess. It's sheer, frosty, brush-strokey, and the random glitters are horrible afterthought. I actually do like the colors, but the finish and all the components added to it really ruin it. I think if it were a glass fleck vs. a frost it would been so much better, and they should do away with those pointless glitters too. The glitters make me irrationally angry. I do not understand why you would put silver glitters in a warm-toned polish that is already busy enough with the frost finish and the intense shimmer? It's like they knew they screwed up on this color already, and felt adding those glitters would help it. No, they don't.  Can you tell these glitters bother me? Haha. I've read reviews on this polish, and a lot people love it. You guys may love it too, but I'm pretty set in my opinion on this...clearly! :P

Overall, nice color scheme,  that is ruined by a poor choice in finish and evil glitters that have turned this blogger into grump about this polish and the $$$ she wasted purchasing it.

Happy Friday!

  1. Sorry you didn't like it :(. I hate it when that happens. Maybe it can find another happy home?

  3. LOL I love reading your rant - I suppose we all have been there, if that's any consolation LOL
I don't like it either - and I'm relieved to find someone else that hates A color to Diner For.

  5. I wish you would just tell us how you really feel ; )

Thanks for the honest opinion and for making me smile. It amazes me that other people love certain polishes I don't really care for.

This type of color (peach with golden shimmer) is one of my way back favorite polish shades. But now I do find it somewhat blah with out massive glittah sparkles!  Much more than the wimpy amount in this polish.

  6. I know the feeling! For me it was Model's Own Copper Pot... which didn't just end up streaky and brushstroke ridden... it bubbled horrendously!

  7. I agree with you 100%. I've been generally let down by the entire Beetlejuice collection and the names are freaking lame and have NOTHING to do with Beetlejuice. I saw the fall release of Bettlejuice at Urban Outfitters in Orlando and I still passed on every single one.

  11. I hate when a polish isn't at all what I expected. It's still a pretty color though.

  12. I'm with you!:) I bought it too, impulsively along with all the other beetlejuice colours, and paid shipping from the UK which was pricy. Heaven knows why!:) I applied it once, wore it for one day. It's just not my colour at all - this orange and my pink/white gaelic skin do not mix.

  13. This is such a pretty shade in theory :( It looks pretty on you but if the glitters are annoying, that sucks.

It's pretty, but I am so not a fan of sheer, frosty, streaky looking polishes.

  15. Despite the frostiness of this polish (I agree, yuck!), the color is gorgeous! I think it looks really pretty.

  16. Agree with you on this one Steph...it just is not 'me' either even if it did have a good dispersion of glitter in it. It's a huge miss, far too frost looking, and the shade is just something not right in my book. I did not pick up the OPI one you referenced here - there were next to none in that fall 2011 OPI collection that were anything I would have worn more than one time to try.
