Revlon Mai Tai Ask?

Lately, drugstore trips have been pretty boring. I've hardly gone to CVS or Walgreens because whenever I would go in I wouldn't find anything. Last week was a different story. I walked into Walgreens and saw many displays of new and limited edition drugstore polishes. This was a little too exciting for me, and I did go a little crazy shopping them. One new limited edition collection I spotted was by Revlon called Haute Tropics. Haute Tropics has a mix of bright and bold colors. I really liked the assortment because the colors definitely are on trend for the season, and the major pull here is at a drugstore price. I picked up this next color from the collection.

Mai Tai Ask?
Mai Tai Ask? is a bold creamy orange creme that leans a hint to the coral side.

Color: I'm not typically an orange person, but I do really love those creamy oranges though. This is a great orange color, it's not neon, but it's bold and vibrant.

Formula: The formula of this and I will go ahead and say the others in this collection too, left a lot to be desired. I'm trying to remember if it's Revlon in general who has a formula like this or if it's just these? The formula was very much on the thin side. I prefer a thinner polish formula, but this was too thin to the point it was very hard to control and would pool up in my cuticles. I was so frustrated at the application of this I almost gave up on swatching it. Not good.

Overall: Beautiful pigmented color, but a pain in the behind formula. :-/

My Rating: 2.5 out of 5 paint splatters
I honestly don't remember how much I paid for this, but I think it was probably around $5.00.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. oooh- nice color! and you make it look really good- I can never get smooth results like that if the formula is junk- Revlon seems hit and miss with its formula. This reminds me of Revlon Fearless. Do you have that one? Maybe a tad brighter and more neon than Fearless. What other colors did you get? I am dying for some new collections at our local drugstores. We are stuck with really boring displays and merch that seems months old! maybe I need to get out of town for a haul?

  3. I've actually never had a good experience with Revlon polish formulas. I think the best would be with Revlon Top Speed in Cloud which is one of my favorite polishes. But still applied fairly streaky. The regular line ones, they just don't level properly! I end up trying to use top coat to smooth them out, but still. It never looks right and my nail OCD immediately tells me to just take it off. This is a very cute color! I hope to see more drugstore polishes (more interesting ones) pop up, because I've been doing the same as you. I just don't bother going to any anymore because I don't expect anything interesting to be there!

I love colors like this. And I have had major issues with Revlon's formula. It's actually my favorite drugstore brand polish mainly because they're colors are always on trend and they make amazing dupes. One thing I do notice about Revlon's polish is that they do tend to become quite thick over time. More so than other polishes. But I just use a little thinner and they're fine.

  6. Beautiful color! It seems like Revlon has very inconsistent formula's. Blah.

  7. This is bright and beautiful! I love this...too bad about the formula though. You have the most perfect manicures...how do you do that?

  8. I don't have Fearless, but from photos that one looks a little more red-orange. The other colors I got from this collection were Lagoon Afternoon and Hello Bali. You should go out of town for a little haul!

  10. There always seems to be a lull with drugstores after the holidays until spring time. There is too much time between new collections of just the same boring stuff!

  11. It would be nice if this one got thicker because it's too thin now. I think Revlon does a great job of being on trend, I just wish their formulas were more consistent!

  14. Thank you! I don't think they're perfect especially compared to other bloggers. I just try to take my time when painting my nails..slow and steady wins the race.

  17. That collection really looks gorgeous - and so does this juicy orange (and I love the name) - too bad about the formula, I hate pooling polishes....

Oh, man I just re-read my comment and realized I type HAVE instead of HAVEN'T. Two letters make such a big difference -lol! I haven't had major issues with their formulas other than thickening over time is what I was trying to say.
