China Glaze When Stars Collide

Who was excited when they saw bloggers pics from Cosmoprof North America 2012 of the China Glaze Hologram collection? Who was disappointed when they saw blogger swatches when the collection came out?

I'm sure quite a few of you answered yes to both of these. I was excited, but was disappointed to see these were not as holo as expected. Despite my initial disappointment, I was also relieved because then I wouldn't have to figure out how I was going to pay for this entire holo collection! I did spot a few that still interested me and this next polish is one of them.

When Stars Collide
When Stars Collide is a deep maroon purple linear holo.

I really like the color of this one, and it is a unique holographic color for me. Is this an in your face holo? No. This isn't like the China Glaze OMG holos, recent Color Club holos, or Urban Outfitters holos. Is it a bad? Not at all. While the holographic effect did not meet my expectations these are nice holos. China Glaze Tronica collection? Don't get me started on that one again. That collection was a sorry excuse for holos, Hologram collection is 10x better than that!

I want to talk about application on this for minute. These will show every single imperfection on your nail without a the appropriate base coat. It's not pretty...ridge city! Well...unless your lucky and don't have noticeable nail ridges! I used Nfu Oh's Aqua Base coat on this which helped a lot, but it didn't help totally. I still see some pesky ridges! I did find with that base coat the application wasn't perfect either. I found the polish a bit goopy to apply. I have read that it's easier to apply without a base coat, but that's not an option for me and my ridgey nails. :-/

Overall, it's not perfect, but it's holographic and I like this color. I still would like to try a few others in this collection---Strap on Your Moonboots, Infa-Red, Take a Trek, and Galactic Gray. That being said, I'm not in any rush either. I know, I'm so wishy washy.

I received this polish as gift in an Easter Swap, but you can purchase this polish at Sally Beauty Supply for $8.99 with Sally's card and $9.99 without. I hear they are also Buy One Get One Free this week there too. Wee! I've also seen these on Head2ToeBeauty and Nailsupplies.us

What do you think of the China Glaze Hologram collection?

Happy Tuesday!

  1. I was initially disappointed when I saw online swatches as well, but when I finally picked up some of my own and compared them to the OMG polishes They match up holo-wise pretty well in my opinion. I prefer these holos to the color club halo hues personally.

  2. This is one of the only colors I'm interested, also want Strap on Your Moonboots and Galactic Gray. I only want the colors that haven't been holo-ed before!

  3. I'm showing this polish today as well :D I have to agree with you, when I saw the previews of this collection I was super excited, then I saw swatches and I was so disappointed. After thinking about it for a while I decided to buy all of them anyway and I'm so glad that I did. I love them! This one being one of my favorites.

  4. This is pretty, but I too was disappointed with the holo effect. Oh, and I'm going to pretend I didn't see that Sally's has BOGO this week. I don't know how long I can ignore it, but I'll try ;0).

  5. I love this one! :) I bought it few months ago with Take a trek and Strap on your moon boots. You're right for the ridges. :(

  6. Yeah, I was pretty disappointed when I first saw the swatches... I mean, it's not like the polishes aren't pretty, because they are! But I was expecting something different. Oh well. This is actually my favourite next to Strap On Your Moonboots!

  7. I bought this one. Though it's not super holographic, I do love the color. It is unique. The other one I bought was Strap on Your Moonboots, same reason. I want to get Infra Red too, but my Sallys only got three of each color, and I didn't get there yesterday so I'm pretty sure it will be gone.

  8. Pretty disappointed with the entire collection China Glaze Hologram collection. I had been waiting and waiting for these to come out...even put off buying the 2013 Color Club Halo Hues, so that I could get these. As soon as I saw swatches of the CG Hologram collection, I was kicking myself for not getting the Halo Hues. I quickly went online in search of the Halo Hues and bought all of them. I'm very happy with the CC Halo Hues.

  9. I'm not really impressed with the collection either. They're pretty, but I feel like there are better holos available, especially the ones from Color Club. But, I do like When Stars Collide! It's gorgeous and unique. I also really like Galactic Gray and Strap On Your Moonboots.

  10. I can say yes to both too - but this is a pretty shade after all :)
I have bought 6 or 7 from this collection, and you should get Infra Red - it's gorgeous IMO

  12. I was in Sallys on Saturday March 30 and I got two of those CG holos and one ORLY and the cashier gave me buy two get one free which didn't start until April! I got a flyer in my mail that says "Buy 2 get 1 free entire stock nail polish & soak-off gel polish" So the cashier honored that sale early for me which was really nice of him!
