butter LONDON Fishwife

Butter London and I used to not get along well. I should say my nails didn't get along well with their polish. I tried their own base coat and top coat, no luck. At that time I was using Seche Vite top coat and that didn't work out either. It was chip central within a day with Butter London. I really think it was a body chemistry thing with me. As a result, I pretty much swore off the brand for 2 years.

Thankfully, either my body chemistry changed, their formula changed, or my new base coat top coat combo started working, and I can now successfully wear them again. This is a blessing and a curse. As we know Butter London isn't the most affordable polish on the market, but the shades they release are the bomb. I particularly like this next one.

Fishwife is a soft turquiose and sage scattered holo.

Color: This is the type of holo I love for fall. This is soft, subtle, and muted. I actually think this almost reads as neutral and can be very wearable. The holographic effect is not strong at, but I actually prefer it this way. Lovely is the perfect word for Fishwife.

Formula: The formula on this is average to below average. I did not have trouble applying this, but it is sheer and patchy on the first 2 coats. I used 3 coats in the swatch above, and I'm happy with that result. I do expect a more opaque and stronger formula for polish in this price range though.

Price: This is $15.00. I purchased it on the butter LONDON website

Overall: I really adore this color. I don't have a color like this in my collection. The formula is a downer, but the color wins me over. It has its flaws, but overall I'm pleased.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Paint Splatters
Happy Tuesday!

  1. Pretty color. For some reason, I'm not usually drawn to butter London, I think it's the price tag. But I do like this color!

  2. I love butter London's colors and this color is one that has had me intrigued for a long time. My story is the same as yours. The formula on the first few butters I purchased was chip-tastic and less than smooth so I gave up on the brand for awhile but am trying again. Don't know if it is due to the change in formula(not sure when this happened, but I heard there WAS a formula change) or it was my base and top, but I am trying again with the brand. the ulta promo has helped me expand my collection and so far so good on the new bottles. Fishwife is so unique and a gorgeous pick for fall! love their glitters and holos!

  3. I love BL's colors but I detest that little crappy brush.

  4. This looks like such a gorgeous holo! I haven't tried any butter London because of the price, but I agree that a more expensive polish should have way better pigmentation!

  5. I am a sucker for polishes this colour! It is a shame that the coverage was so sheer though. For the price point, you would expect it to not be quite so sheer.

  6. I too had trouble with Butter London but this is such a pretty color I attempted to try it. What base coat / top coat combo are you using?

I have this and haven't worn it yet. It looks spectacular on you though so I may be busting it out soon. Thanks for the unintentional reminder!

  8. This is a pretty color. I love the subtle holo in this and I usually go for the "bam in your face holo," but I really like this. That said...I don't own a single Butter London. The price is an extreme turn off. I can never seem to catch them on sale, so I guess it's just not meant for me to own any. lol I do think at that price point, the wear should last more than a day or two before chipping.
