Glitt-A-Licia Guest Post: What We Do in the Name of Glitter

Oh what we do in the name of glitter!

You know how time seems to slow to a screeching halt when you are really, really, REALLY looking forward to something???

I knew I had a package coming from Digital Nails and could not wait to get it! I saw all the amazing glitter made by Raphaelle owner of Digital Nails on one of my favorite nail blogs Accio Lacquer. Immediately, I recognized resistance would be futile. Fighting this urge would be harder than algebra, so instead of fighting my urge, I gave in. (Math is so hard anyway)

The wait was torture! Not on Raph’s part, she mailed the polish the very same day my order was placed, but waiting on glitter is like a kid on Christmas Eve torture!

When I checked the tracking, and it said out for delivery, I paced by the window nonstop just to catch sight of the mail lady. I even made the hike to my mailbox 3 times, just to make sure I did not miss her dropping off the package.
(As you can see from the picture, I live at the bottom of a friggin mountain some call it a hill…whatever).

If I actually make it to the mailbox once without passing out, it is a good day! I made the trip four times! FOUR TIMES! Three times ended empty handed but the fourth time I struck glittery gold!!!

After I saw the package in the mailbox, I nearly fainted (not sure from excitement or from pure exhaustion). There inside my mailbox was a little white box with the words “Yay glitter!” staring back at me.

Yep! I was already in love! It was destiny! Tearing into the box was almost as fun as seeing my polish for the first time.
Now, on to the good stuff! Glitter! Lots of GLITT-A! So much glitter the space station called and told me to close the box because the glitter was blinding them! Well, not really, but I would not be shocked if they would have called!

I purchased Spoilers, Serenity, Sorry
I’m not Made of Sugar, Double Rainicorn, Bad Wolf, Rhaegal, and Hipster in a Bottle. I think my brain was on the verge of exploding being in the same room with so much beautiful nail polish!
I did a quick mani of Sorry, I’m not Made of Sugar (sorry if it looks messy, I was still lightheaded from so many hikes to the mailbox when I painted my digits). It is beautiful! A rich purple jelly with black glitters and spectraflair. You heard me! Spectraflair baby! Even though this polish was amazing on it’s own, I could not help myself. I layered a very thin layer of Serenity over the Sorry I’m not Made of Sugar. Wow! I fell speechless! I was in glitter heaven. Instead of watching tv, I was watching my nails. The color shift was just glorious, like little fireworks on my nails.

I have since fallen in love with Raph, and she is my geeky goddess of glitter!!! We even worked on a collaboration polish based on Leeloo from the Fifth Element!!!

Orly Pixie Powder

*You have one week left to enter my Beautifully Disney giveaway!

I have another polish from the Orly Surreal fall collection for you today. This is another standout polish to me from this collection. One, because it's so not typical for fall, and two because it's just flat out gorgeous!

Pixie Powder over Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac
Pixie Powder is a lavender micro glitter with a slight golden/pink flash in a clear base.

Color: This glitter in this is so delicate and beautiful. They named this correctly by including the name Pixie in it. Pixie Powder does look magical. I love how at certain angles you can see hints of pink and gold shine in this glitter.

Formula: The formula on this was smooth and easy to use. I used 2 coats over a base.

Price: I think I paid around $8.50 for this at Ulta.

Overall: Beautiful glitter topper here. I think this is stunning. My only complaint, is I wish this had fuller coverage.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Eyes

*Be forewarned--I'm sharing my own candid experience below.

There is nothing more infuriating than spending a lot of money on something you don't like. I've had almost 5 years of experience with nail polish. I have probably over 1,200 bottles. I know my nail polish. I know what I like. I know what's worth the money. I know what is good and what is bad. When I buy something that sucks, and throw down too much money for it, it makes me feel like a complete donkeys behind. I should of know better, and that's what makes me not like this polish even more.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Eyes
Mermaid's Eyes is a frosty light blue with gold micro-glitter, and blue sequined glitter.

Color: This overly frosted blue has completely drowned out all the other beautiful aspects of this polish. Where is the gold micro glitter and blue sequined glitter? Oh, it's just hiding behind Mimi from The Drew Carey Show's eyeshadow. The color of this polish isn't ugly, but they ruined it by making it a frosty mess. Worst of all, I should of been smart enough to realize this based on how it looked in the bottle.

Formula: The formula on this applies nicely and smoothly. I'll give it that!

Price: I got this for $19.00 at Nordstroms. $19.00 I could of spent buying 2-3 other nail polishes, a nice dinner, personalized Mickey Mouse ears, or 2 hamsters from the pet store. I can think of countless other things I would of preferred! If I had paid $8.00 I still wouldn't have liked it, but would of been able to blow it off. $19.00 is just a hard pill to swallow.

Overall: I will say some of you will like this. I've read reviews where people like this.  If this had been like the other mermaid polishes in this collection where the base didn't overshadow the details I would of liked it too. I just don't do blue frosty messes for $19.00. I'm sorry. You lose! Good day sir!

Way-Cool Mani Wednesday: Autumn Wishes

Fall does not exist in Florida. You don't know how bad I wish it did. It would be nice to have temperatures consistently under 80 before December. That's not going to happen though. Floridians, or shall I say myself, choose live in delusion about fall weather by doing a few things.

1. Buy fall scented items (i.e. candles, room fresheners, and fragrances) I currently have cranberry scented room fresheners.
2. Buy pumpkin food items (i.e. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes or pumpkin bread).
3. Paint nails fall colors.

This all helps create the illusion that it is cool outside. The trick is you don't step outside because once you do you're rudely awakened by hot, humid, and very sticky reality.

In honor of my longing for autumn I have created this mani.

Polishes Used:
Ulta Lav-ish and China Glaze Goldie but Goodie

Manicure Description: I painted my thumb, index, and pinky with Ulta Lav-ish. My middle finger was painted with Ulta Lav-ish, and topped using the Saran Wrap technique using China Glaze Goldie by Goodie. My ring finger was painted with China Glaze Goldie but Goodie.

To be honest, I don't love this. I'm not sure if it's because it's so hot out that it's clouding my thoughts or what. I really like these colors together, but perhaps just not on me! I think I should of used a darker purple color.

Happy Wednesday!

Zoya Kerry

You ever have nail polish you keep calling the wrong name? This is the problem I have with Zoya Belle Kerry. I keep wanting to call it Belle, and you will soon see why.....

Kerry

Kerry is a sunny yellow gold metallic.

Color: You get why I want to call this Belle? This reminds me so much of Belle's dress in Beauty and the Beast. I love gold, but it is never a flattering color on me as a full mani. Kerry is different. This yellow gold is cooler toned and softer. I would never consider wearing yellow gold as a full mani until now. This is gorgeous!

Formula: Great smooth formula. I used 3 coats in the above swatch.

Price: This is $8 on the Zoya website.

Overall: I am in love with this color. If you're someone who loves gold, but tends to avoid it on your nails, this maybe what you've been wishing for! I'm calling this one a must have, and has been added as a contender for my Top 20 of 2013 list (have had a lot of those recently!).
