Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 1/24/16-1/31/16

It's been a fairly good week of melting. I only had one I didn't like in the bunch. I am running into a bit of problem! I'm running out of new wax to melt. I've melted through all most all my new wax and only have waxes I've reviewed. I'm hoping my Walmart gets in the new ScentSationals spring line up soon!
DD Beach Getaway
Scent Description: ocean air with a hint of vacation
My Thoughts: I'm not sure what a "hint of vacation" smells like exactly, but I'm on board with this one. This smells similar to me to Yankee Candle's Sun & Sand. It has a strong salty ocean water note blended with that sandy beachy note. I like it. This is definitely one of those scents that I think is universally pleasing. You can't go wrong. It's fresh and beachy. It's not a stunner or a one-of-kind type scent, but definitely good solid scent. This has a good throw and lasted several hours when melted.
Where To Buy: Hobby Lobby store

Ten Digit Creations Olive Blossom
Scent Description: fresh and clean aroma composed of fresh olive leaves, green ivy, crisp orange, with subtle notes of sandalwood and musk
My Thoughts: If you like rich and complex perfume-like scents, Olive Blossom is for you. I like those types of scents so I love this one. It's so hard to describe because I don't pick up on individual notes in this, it's just an overall elegant and rich floral perfume-like scent. This one is strong and had a great throw.
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Ten Digit Creations Fifty Shades of Blue
Scent Description: the warmth of the Mediterranean brought to you by notes of bergamot, mandarin, lemon, and orange
My Thoughts: This is supposed to be a dupe to Lush's Olive Branch, which I've never smelled so I can't compare. What I will say is this one gets raved about a lot, but I really hated it. I don't get any bergamot, mandarin, lemon, or orange from this. This to me smells like powdery overly frilly grandma perfume mixed with cotton candy. It's sickly sweet, powdery, and just yuck. It's also strong, which didn't help matters for me. This scent is popular, so maybe it's just my nose? Do.not.like.
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

ScentSationals Garden Cantaloupe
Scent Description: Cantaloupe straight from the garden bursts with the fragrance of sweet, sugary melons freshly cut and ready to eat.
My Thoughts: This is straight up pure cantaloupe. I love melon scents. They're the perfect blend of fresh, sweet, and watery notes. This is perfect. It doesn't smell artificial nor is it overly sweet. It's refreshing and makes me want to eat some cantaloupe! This is a winner! This has a great throw.

Sephora Formula X Aura

I have another polish from the Sephora Formula X Black Quartz collection to share with you today. I only have 2 from this collection and based on the 2 I have I'm going to need the other 3! These are beautiful blends of jewel-toned glitters in a black jelly base. I've never seen polishes with finishes like this done well. The glitters are usually drowned out by the jelly base. These are not and have that perfect balance.

Aura
Aura is a black jelly base packed with ruby red glitters.

Collection: Sephora Formula X Black Quartz Collection 2015

Color: You can't go wrong with red and black. This is gorgeous ruby red glitter and I love how it pops against that black base. This color looks rich and classy. No complaints here.

Formula: I used 3 coats on this swatch. I didn't have trouble with application. This does dry down matte and dull so 1-2 coats of top coat will give it the shine it needs to really pop.

Price: This is $12.50 from Sephora.

Overall: I love Aura. This collection is gorgeous and I love how they achieved the perfect balance of base and glitter when using a black jelly base. This isn't something I've seen accomplished well at all. My only complaint is that these dry down matte, it can be resolved with top coat, but I was surprised this didn't have a shiny finish on its own.

FingerPaints Rockin' Renaissance

On a recent trip to Sally's this FingerPaints color caught my eye. There was more to it than meets the eye though! I'm still in my neutral phase and this one while it has some pink to it still reads to me as a neutral based on the subtly of the color. It's also metallic!

Rockin' Renaissance
Rockin' Renaissance is a dusty rose mixed with gold metallic texture.

Collection: FingerPaints Core Line

Color: This is hard color to describe. The main base of this polish is a dusty and muted rosy pink, but it's mixed with golden flecks. This does read to me as something on the rose-gold spectrum, but there is more pink than gold. I love this color because is a subdued pink so I think it would flatter many skin tones and many color palettes in regards to clothing and makeup.

Formula: What surprised me about this polish is that it was a texture! I had no idea it was when purchasing it. I thought it was a glitter. I'm on the fence with textures, but I really like this one because of how metallic it is. I do like it, but I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed this wasn't just a glitter. I used 2 coats and it applied smoothly. I did try to add top coat to this to see if I could get a shiny finish, but it ate my top coat. Unless, you want to layer gel-like top coat on this, you're going to be stuck with a texture.

Price: I believe I got this at Sally's for around $6.

Overall: I like Rockin' Renaissance. I think the color is beautiful and if you're a a fan of rose gold colors you will definitely like this. The textured formula was a surprise to me, but I do end up liking it because of the metallic finish. I think this a color that is flattering and would look nice on many.

China Glaze Let's Dew It

I almost feel like the time of the glitter topper is over. Over the past 2 years they've diminished greatly in number. We are definitely in the age of holos.  I need to stop talking like Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings. I must say my use of glitter toppers has waned too. I think we just don't need them that much anymore with holos, crellies, and jellies.

That beings said as someone who doesn't do nail art and looks for ways to embellish manicures I do reach for them on occasion. I'm happy to come across a nice one too. I really like this China Glaze one from the the recent fall collection.

Let's Dew It (over Cuccio Wild Knights)
Let's Dew It is a mix of steely blue and silver micro glitters and shimmer in a clear base.

Collection: China Glaze The Great Outdoors Fall 2015

Color: I love the color of the glitter and the complexity of it. This steely blue is perfect because it's not the traditional or gold glitter, but it still falls into that neutral category. I mentioned in a post last week that I'm really into neutral manis right now, and this would fall into that category for me. I absolutely love the mix of glitter types in this as it really gives this glitter a lot of depth and dimension.

Formula: This was easily to apply and glitters spread out evenly on the nail.  I used one coat over a base. You could definitely build this up more over a base for an even more blingy manicure. Personally, I don't feel this could be built up to opacity in reasonable amount of coats. This glitter does cover well, but you'd still see your nail underneath.

Price: I'm not sure this is still available in stores, but it's very easy to find online in the $4-$7 range.

Overall: I love Let's Do It, it rekindled my love for glitter toppers. It's a gorgeous color glitter and I love the density and mix of glitters in it. I love the way it looks topped over similar dusty blues for a neutral and monotone look.

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 1/17/16-1/24/16

I'm back on the wax track! The week before last I had a cold and lost my sense of smell, so that's why there wasn't a post last week. I couldn't smell anything! I regained my olfactory senses this week so I'm back on board. I think it was overall a successful wax week. I didn't really have a bad one in this bunch.

Yankee Candle Turquoise Sky
Scent Description: Calm, salty air with hints of sea grass and musk, float gently on ocean waves
My Thoughts: This to me smelled very similar to me to Yankee Candle Ocean Star. The only difference being was that Turquoise Sky had a slight cologne/masculine note to it whereas Ocean Star didn't. I liked this one. It was fresh and crisp and an all around likable scent. It had a good throw for several hours.
Where To Buy: Bed Bath & Beyond, Yankee Candle store, or Yankee Candle online

Ten Digit Creations Endless Weekend
Scent Description: blend of raspberry lychee sorbet, sun-kissed magnolia, and vanilla sandalwood
My Thoughts: This is a dupe of the Bath & Body Works scent which happens to be my favorite for spring and summertime. I love this scent because it's juicy, tart, sweet, fresh, and perfume-like all in one. The raspberry and floral elements give it that sweet and tart blend and the vanilla sandalwood give it that elegant perfume element. You can detect all the notes in this blend of scents. My only complaint is the throw on this wasn't as strong as I would of liked. It's not weak, but average.
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations website

Ten Digit Creations Sea Salt & Ocean Breezes
Scent Description: salty air, grapefruit, rainfall mist, sea kelp, oud wood, oakmoss, patchouli, and amber
My Thoughts: This is hands down my new favorite scent of all time in the entire world. This has a 70% strong ocean, sea salt, and water note to it balanced by 30% of this perfume-y sophisticated note which I'm betting is the blend of the oud wood, oakmoss, patchouli, and amber. This smells like some luxury brand ocean-inspired perfume. It's fresh but elegant at the same time. This had a strong throw for several hours. I am in so much love with this scent! I went ahead after melting it in wax bought it in shampoo, conditioner, room spray, leave-in spray conditioner, lotion, and body spray. Can you tell I like it?
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations website

ScentSationals Sparkling Herbal Tea
Scent Description: Herbs and honey
My Thoughts: This to me smells like a chamomile tea bag. It's pretty straight forward. It smells like herbal tea. There isn't anything "sparkling" about it. I don't get any effervescent or fizzy notes, which is a bit disappointing since I do love those. That being said I do really like this scent. There are no frills about it, but it is a pure tea scent which is soothing and nice. This had a good throw for several hours.

Third Week Throwbacks: Butter London Two Fingered Salute

Since I failed at blogging most of the week how about a Saturday post? I've been really digging neutrals since the beginning of the year. That's all I've been wearing to be honest is nudes, taupes, and muted colors. I can't get enough! I've been revisiting a lot of neutrals I haven't used in awhile including this Butter London.

Two Fingered Salute
Two Fingered Salute is a dusty mint creme with rose gold and copper micro glitter.

Collection: Butter London Holiday Nordstrom Exclusive 2012

Color: I love it when I can say 4 years later this color is absolutely unique and original. This is definitely one of the most unique mainstream/high end polishes I own. I love the dusty mint green because it's chic and since it's so dusty it reads as a neutral. The real star of this though is that microglitter the green paired with the copper is gorgeous and gives off this unique antique finish.

Formula: The formula on this was easy to apply and smooth. I used 2 coats above.

Price: While this was a Nordstrom exclusive when it came out, it is listed on Butter London's website but isn't currently available. I'm not sure if it will come back or not.

Overall: Two Fingered Salute is a beautiful color and well worth the high end price tag. It's a unique and sophisticated shade that I love! Look at that copper glitter!

Silly Bee's Chickadees Steph's Sugarplum Suite + Giveaway

*The following products were received in exchange for my honest review.

The past two winters I have been fortunate enough to work with Melissa from Silly Bee's Chickadees for The Gift of Melly. The Gift of Melly is blogger collaboration Melissa does where she creates polishes inspired by bloggers where a portion of the sales from those polishes go to charity of that bloggers choice. The launch of these polishes is usually around the holidays, but it got pushed back this year. I participated again this year and Melissa created Steph's Sugarplum Suite for me inspired by The Nutcracker. My charity of choice is again the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando the animal shelter where I volunteer weekly. Stay tuned below because there is a giveaway!

Steph's Sugarplum Suite
Steph's Sugarplum Suite is a pale mauve crelly with magenta glitters in various sizes.

Collection: Silly Bee's Chickadees The Gift of Melly Winter 2016

Color: I can't dislike a color I created. I love this color. I feel unique and fun pink shades do not get the attention they deserve, so I wanted one! I like the softness of the base paired with the deeper glitters. It's a feminine and pretty color, but it also has a bit of pizzazz. I like that this color can transcend seasons. Yes, it's a holiday inspired polish, but this is perfect color for Valentine's and the spring season.

Formula: This had an excellent smooth and easy to use crelly formula. I used 2 coats above, and found that this applied evenly and opaquely.

Price: Steph's Sugarplum Suite is $10 on Silly Bee's Chickadees etsy site. $2 from each bottle sold will be donated to the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.

Overall: Of course, I love Steph's Sugarplum Suite! I do really think it's an excellent color with a great formula. I also really appreciate being part of Melissa's collab again this year and her generosity in supporting various charities. Please check out Emily/Casual Contrast's and Jacki/Adventures in Acetone polishes and giveaways and stay tuned for Mishka/Accio Lacquer's post!

Third Week Throwbacks: NARS Purple Rain

*Sorry for the delay in posting this week. I have been sick and I had jury duty all day yesterday, so I'm a behind!

I had a very unexpected find at a very random store last week. I went to Bealls Outlet which is the outlet offshoot of Bealls which is a store similar to Kohls. Bealls Outlet though is more like a Ross and can get odd and end items you'd never find in the Bealls store itself.

I went there looking for clothes and shoes and just decided to browse through their bath and body section when I stumbled across a handful of NARS nail polishes. NARS is a high end brand and I think their polishes are around $20. I picked up a bottle and saw that it was Purple Rain. This was fairly popular color when it was released in 2010 as evidence by postings from Vampy Varnish and Scrangie

The best part is when I looked at the price tag they were selling it for $3.99. Score. That was definitely going home with me. I didn't end up finding any clothes or shoes, but I found a NARS nail polish. I also ended up finding a handful of polishes from the China Glaze Hunger Games collection there too for $2 each.

Purple Rain
Purple Rain is a deep purple with blue and red shimmer.

Collection: NARS Spring 2010

Color: This is the queen of purple polishes. This is stunning jewel toned amethyst purple with a gorgeous red and blue shimmer. This polish absolutely glows. It's rich, but it's also vibrant and eye catching too. This is a stunning shade of purple.

Formula: Flawless formula. I expect that from high end polishes. I don't use many high end polishes, but when I do I can tell the difference from them and mainstream. This applies so beautifully and opaquely with no effort. I used 2 coats above.

Price: Bealls Outlets are not everywhere and stock varies from store to store, but if you have one near you, you might want to check it out. This was $3.99 for me there. I do see some listings online in the $10-$20 range.

Overall: I'm very happy about my this surprise find. This is a beautiful color and it's a great throwback. Purple Rain is stunning and great reminder of awesome polishes of yesteryear.

Sephora Formula X Bliss

A few months ago I strolled into Sephora with a friend with no intention of finding anything interesting. It always starts out that way, doesn't it? I've been very impressed with Sephora's Formula X line, so I decided to take a glance at it assuming they didn't have anything new to entice me. Wrong.

They had a new collection called Black Quartz. This collection consisted of 5 colors that were black jelly bases with jewel-toned glitters. As soon as I saw these I knew I was screwed. Oh, so very screwed. I resisted though, because these puppies are not cheap. They're $12.50 a pop. Instead, I put these on my Elfster wishlist in hopes that future gift exchange buddy may get them for me. I was in luck, as my Secret Santa did gift me 2 of these polishes over the holidays! I have the color Bliss to show you today.

Bliss
Bliss is a black jelly base loaded with aqua-blue glitter

Collection: The Black Quartz Collection

Color: This is gorgeous! I love the bright jewel-toned glitter popping out against the black base. This color is rich and vibrant. I don't really have much else to add.

Formula: The formula on this was good. It wasn't as good as some indie glitters or jelly glitters out there, but it was good. I didn't have any problems with application. I used 3 coats above. Top coat is a must on these as these dry very dull and matte.

Price: This is $12.50 at Sephora or Sephora's website.

Overall: I'm pleased with this nail polish. I don't know of anything like it out there now. It's unique to me and it's awesome it's widely available. I love the glitter against the black base. The formula is good, not amazing, but I'm not going to complain about that. The price is a bit to swallow, but it is Sephora. Bliss is a-OK with me!

Glam Polish Get Otter Here

I've been oogling over Glam Polish for a long time now. Back in August I decided to cave and buy some of the Under the Sea collection. The swatches I saw of these showcased eye catching pastel holos with microglitters and I was in love, but how did I feel when I saw them in person? This is one of the colors I picked up.

Get Otter Here
Get Otter Here is a lavender holo with blue micro glitters.

Collection: Under the Sea August 2015

Color: I love the color of this that's why I bought it. I love lavenders and this one is the perfect shade. The holo and microglitters were icing on the cake. That being said, this color looks a lot more dull and muddled than I was expected based on various swatch photos. In various swatch photos they looked crisp, vibrant, and magical. I'm sure it's because of certain peoples cameras, lighting, angles, and what not. This color isn't bad though at all though. It's definitely pretty, it just not what I expected.

Formula: Formula on this application wise was good. I didn't have any trouble with that. I used 3 coats. The formula is a bit grainy and dries matte so top coat is needed.

Price: This is $11 on the Glam Polish website.

Overall: Meh. I feel so meh and sad about these. I really was expecting some magical unicorn stuff right here, and I'm just not getting that. It's still pretty and had I not seen photos that look better than my result, I'd honestly probably adore Get Otter Here. I just had certain expectations in my mind and they were not met. My recommendation? Look at tons and tons of swatches before you buy. Don't let one, two, or even four swatch photos make up your mind for you. Research!

Cuccio Grey's Anatomy

*The following product was provided in exchange for my honest review.

Yes, I still have Cosmoprof polishes to share with you. This one is from the brand Cuccio which is a brand exclusively used in salons, but you can find some online. This color is from their current winter NUDEtrals collection.

After the holidays I am over colorful and loud nail polish, at least for a little while. The first weeks of January I stick to neutrals or soft tones. The first of the year is the perfect time for palette cleansing polishes before we break out the colors of spring. My jaw dropped when I saw this color at Cosmoprof. I thought it was one of the most beautiful colors I've seen with a gorgeous finish.

Grey's Anatomy
Grey's Anatomy is a soft gray-blue packed with gold and bronze microglitter.

Collection: Cuccio NUDETrals Winter 2015

Color: Ive mentioned on this blog before how much I love cool-toned colors paired with warm metals. This is stunning combination of a dusty gray-blue with that intense fiery gold and bronze glitter. It's a color combination I wish I saw more of in nail polish because it is so beautiful. I love this muted shade with that teeny bit of glitz.

Formula: The formula on this was OK. I so wish this formula was spectacular because this would be an all star polish in my book. The base of is it a bit sheer and thick. I wish the base had a creamier consistency rather than a sheer almost gel-like one. It's not terrible, but it's not good and not what I'd expect from a salon brand. I used 3 coats.

Price: This is around $8 if you look around for it online.

Overall: I am head over heels in love with the color of Grey's Anatomy. The beautiful soft gray-blue base and that glitter makes a gorgeous polish color. The formula leaves a lot to be desired though which is very disappointing considering how much I love the color itself.

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 1/3/16-1/10/16

It's been a short wax week for me since I have family in town. I'm out and about more, so I don't melt as much. I do think I had a pretty successful wax week though!

Bunch Candle Co. Peppermint & Eucalyptus
Scent Description: Invigorating blend with peppermint, patchouli, cedar wood and eucalyptus
My Thoughts: The peppermint is the strongest note in here, and that's all I could really smell for the first couple hours of melting. I love peppermint though so I don't have any complaints. I'd say around the 5-6 hour mark the peppermint died down and the other notes came out. The eucalyptus, patchouli, and cedar wood added a really nice and subtle masculine note to the entire blend. I liked this one!

Ten Digit Creations Cool Citrus Basil
Scent Description: fresh and clean aroma of sweet basil, lime, and wild mint
My Thoughts: This scent had a lot of my favorite elements in it. I love clean, citrus, and herbal scents and all together this was really nice. It smells like a fancy shampoo you get treated to at the salon. It's crisp, clean, and refreshing.

ScentSationals Starry Sky
Scent Description: Crisp evening night skies form a clean, fresh scent with a spice of myrrh.
My Thoughts: This is a nice woodsy, clean, cologne type blend. I liked this one melting at first, but it got old after awhile. I like the clean and cologne notes in here, but there is a woodsy sweetness in there that puts me off after awhile. I don't hate this, but it's not one I like to melt for too long.

Better Homes and Gardens Salt Water Winds
Scent Description: N/A
My Thoughts: This is probably one of the strongest wax melts I own. This is one I melt after cooking onions. It will knock the onion scent right out! It's a mix to me of a salty ocean air with a strong laundry note. This maybe a bit harsh to some, but I like it. It's a powerful sucker and perfect when you really need to freshen up a room.

Happy Sunday!

FingerPaints Pink Patina

I don't know why, but I've been craving pink polish lately. I think it's because I just don't wear it often anymore probably because it's hard to find cool pinks. On a recent trip to Sally's I did come across a pink by FingerPaints that struck my fancy. That's what I have to share with you today

Pink Patina
Pink Patina is a cool-toned medium pink creme.

Collection: FingerPaints Core Line

Color: This is Barbie pink to me. I know this is not the color for everyone. I get it, it's pretty classic Barbie bubblegum pink color. That being said, I like it! I love cool-toned pinks and it's really a great creme.

Formula: Excellent formula. This formula was creamy and easy to apply. I used 2 coats.

Price: I don't remember exactly what I paid for this, but it was in the $4-$5 range I believe at Sally's Beauty Supply.

Overall: I like Pink Patina. I think it's a fun, bright, and beautiful pink creme. It satisfies my pink creme desire right now. The formula is great and it's just an all around solid color. I know this color may not be this most interesting in the sea of indies and all the other amazing stuff out there now, but sometimes simple and classic is nice too!

LevelUP Lacquer Loot Collection

* I received the following products in exchange for my honest review

I have a collection to share with you today from LevelUP Lacquer. LevelUP Lacquer was formerly Daring Digits back in 2012, but recently rebranded and opened back up after a long distance move. LevelUP Lacquer is inspired by all things nerdy TV shows, movies, and video games! The Loot Collection is inspired by the loot color system of your favorite MMO.

Rare
Rare is a blue jelly base with blue shimmer and blue holo glitter.

Epic
Epic is purple jelly base with purple and purple holo glitters.

Uncommon
Uncommon is a green jelly base with green shimmer and green glitter.

Vendor Trash (over pink creme)
Vendor Trash is a mix of grey, silver, and white glitters in a clear base.

Colors: I love these colors! I love seeing some monochromatic jelly glitters as I don't see them often. I love the jewel-toned shades of Rare, Epic, and Uncommon. I seek out jewel-toned colors this time of year and these shades are rich and vibrant.

Formula: I used 3 coats on Rare, Epic, and Uncommon and 1 coat over a base with Vendor Trash. I thought the formulas on Rare, Uncommon, and Vendor Trash were excellent, smooth, and easy to use. Epic had a sheerer and thicker base than the other 3 polishes. It was still manageable to apply, but didn't apply as easily as the others.

Price: The entire collection is available for $35 and individually they are $9.25. You can purchase these on LevelUP Lacquer's site. LevelUP Lacquer currently ships to the USA for $4 flat rate and to Canada for $8 flat rate.

Overall: I really like this collection from LevelUP Lacquer. I love the beautiful rich shades and the jelly-like finish. The formula on almost all of these was superb and I enjoyed the look of all the shades color and finish wise. I think LevelUP Lacquer is on to great things and I'm happy to see an indie reinvent themselves!

KBShimmer Birthstone Collection (6 of 12)

* I received the following products in exchange for my honest review

I have an excellent way to start off the new year of nail polish. I have the KBShimmer Birthstone Collection to share with you today. These are absolute bling bomb supremes and I'm very excited this is the nail polish I'm posting about to start off 2016. These are an amazing blend metallic flakes and holo. They remind me of foil finish, but on steroids!

Let's get started...

Pink Tourmaline (October)
Pink Tourmaline is a vibrant pink loaded with metallic flakes and a touch of holographic dust.

Aquamarine (March)
Aquamarine is a pale blue polish loaded with metallic flakes and a touch of holographic dust.

Sapphire (September)
Sapphire is a rich navy leaning blue loaded with metallic flakes with a touch of holographic dust.

Diamond (April)
Diamond is a pale silver polish loaded with metallic flakes with holographic dust.

Black Pearl (June)
Black Pearl is a dusty black toned polish with holo sparkle and metallic flakes.

Blue Topaz (December)
Blue Topaz is an icy blue polish with metallic flakes and a touch of holographic dust.

Colors: I'm all about the bling and these are exactly the type of polishes I've been wanting and waiting for. There are tons of multi-colored glitters, jelly glitters, and so forth, but I love one-toned glitters. These are incredible. The amount of shine and sparkle in these is intense. They catch the light beautifully and even wow in the shade. The colors are all beautiful. Pink Tourmaline is an absolute stunner especially considering the lack of unique pink nail polishes out there. Be sure to check out the 6 other shades on the KBShimmer site.

Formula: Excellent opaque and easy to apply formula on all of these. I used 3 coats on Diamond and Aquamarine and only needed two coats for the others.

Overall: What a way to start 2016. KBShimmer has set the bar extremely high in nail polish and the year has barely started. These are stunning intense blingtastic polishes that are beautifully made. I am so impressed with this collection, and believe me I already have started my Top 25 of 2016 contender list with some of these on there! This collection is an absolute must have. You will not be disappointed!
