HPB Presents: Halloween Mani

Halloween! I used to not be a fan of Halloween. Can you believe it? I was as child of course. I mean candy. Come on! When I reached adulthood I could take or leave Halloween. I used to live in a neighborhood where no one decorated. I had no trick or treaters. There was no fun in that at all, so Halloween wasn't special to me.

I moved a little over 2 years ago and that changed. I'm all about finding any reason to decorate and thankfully I live in a neighborhood now who shares my view. It certainly helps that I live right next door to Disney World and have a bunch of Disney Cast Members as neighbors. They like the holiday spirit. Everyone is in the Halloween spirit here and I get tons of trick or treaters now! I love Halloween now. I decorate my house inside and out and I'm reader for trick or treaters tonight!

HPB's mani theme this month was Halloween naturally, so here is my Halloween inspired mani.

Polished Used: China Glaze Riveting, KBShimmer You Go Ghoul!, KBShimmer Eclipse, and China Glaze Rest in Pieces.

Check out my fellow HPB member manis below!

Northern Star Vampires Love Polish Too

Some of the colors I've been gravitating towards this fall are browns and reds. I especially love red-browns this time of year. Strangely enough, I find these colors hard to come across especially the kind of color I'm looking for in particular. They are either too brown or too red for me.

I realized this when Zoya Pepper was released in 2013. I was 100% sure I could find a drugstore dupe to it, but I couldn't find anything remotely close to that color. It seems like such a dupable color, but it's not. I ended up buying Zoya Pepper, and it's favorite of mine to this day. I haven't come across other red-browns I like as much as that until now thanks to Northern Star!

Vampires Love Polish Too
Vampires Love Polish Too is a rich brownish red creme.

Collection: Northern Star Polish Fall 2015

Color: That's what I'm talking about! This color is the perfect blend of red and brown. It is a tinge more on the brown side, but the brown doesn't overwhelm the red in anyway. I love the richness of this color and it's so chic! I've been wearing it all week and I've received many compliments on this shade.

Formula: This has a great formula. It was easy to apply and use. I used 2 coats above.

Price: This is $9 on Northern Star's etsy site

Overall: Vampires Love Polish Too is an excellent polish. I absolutely love the color and the formula! This is a definite contender in my Top 25 of 2015 for sure.

Just in case you're curious. Here is a comparison of it with Zoya Pepper.

They're definitely not dupes. Vampires Love Polish Too has more brown tones to it. I love them both though!

China Glaze Check Out the Silver Fox

I have a polish from the recent China Glaze fall collection to share with you today. I'm always hesitant to post polishes I'm not very into. It's not because I don't want to review it negatively, it's just that it's not very fun to write about. Plus, I really don't know what to say about it. Here goes anyways.....

Check Out the Silver Fox
Check Out the Silver Fox is a gunmetal silver metallic.

Collection: China Glaze The Great Outdoors Fall 2015

Color: I love gunmetal colors. This is a pretty color, but this polish is just so flat. It's almost chalky which doesn't make sense for a metallic. I tried adding top coat and that did nothing. I love foily/metallic colors like this, but there is just something off about the formulation of this color. It has no depth or shine. It looks really matte and dull. This could of been tremendously better.

Formula: The application and formula itself were opaque and so easy to apply. I only needed one coat with this polish.

Price: This can be found in the $7-$8 range at Sally's, Ulta, and online.

Overall: I'm sorry, but I really don't like this. I was expecting this to be a beautiful sister to Wood Ya Wanna? which does have dimension and shine. It's not at all. This color is just so flat and dull. I find it really unattractive and not flattering. If you want a silver metallic that has some omph to it I'd recommend Zoya Trixie or OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous.

Bliss Polish Oh My Confetti

* I received the following product in exchange for my honest review.

Can you believe I'm still working my way through Cosmoprof polishes? I sure am! I think I'll be working through them through next year. This polish is made my Bliss Polish. I had never tried this brand before and I'm so glad it's now on my radar. This is an excellent beauty!

Oh My Confetti
Oh My Confetti is a white crelly base with teal fuchsia, blue, copper, and gold glitters.

Collection: Unknown

Color: This is a great white crelly and I love the glitters in here. I love that these are jewel-toned colored glitters. It's a different from most white crellies I'm used to with primary or pastel color glitters. This color combination is great and unexpected.

Formula: Fan-freaking-tastic formula. White crellies tend to be my nemesis when it comes to formula. They can be uneven, streaky, sheer, and pain in the butt to apply. This formulation was heavenly. I was shocked while applying it because it was so opaque. I only needed 2 coats. You could use more to build up the glitter though .

Price: This is $7.50 on Bliss Polish's website.

Overall: Oh My Confetti is a beautiful white crelly. I love the color of the glitters used, and most importantly I love this spectacular formula. I'm really impressed with Bliss Polish and it's definitely a indie that I will be revisiting!

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 10/18/15-10/25/15

Another week, another week's worth of burning and melting. This week was a bit of a hit or miss in regards to what I melted. I did have some good stuff though!
Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake
Scent Description: Treat yourself to a freshly baked pumpkin cupcake covered in rich buttercream frosting.
My Thoughts: I've come to realize I just can't do bakery scents. I like them on first sniff. They smell divine and scrumptious, but a little goes a long way for me. When I burned this I had enough of it after about 45 minutes. It's just too sugary sweet for me for long-term use. If you like bakery scents, you'll love this one.  It has those sugary frosting notes along with the pumpkin. I can really only do these types of scents in small doses though.

Bath & Body Works Alpine Cheer
Scent Description: Add winter cheer with the crisp scent of mountain balsam, cedarwood bark & snow white cranberry.
My Thoughts: I thought this maybe similar to Merry Mistletoe and it is in some ways. It has that holiday greenery note with a fruity note. I don't find this to be as sophisticated of a scent as Merry Mistletoe though. Merry Mistletoe has that champagne/effervescent and fruity note to it, whereas this just as a straight fruity note. Alpine Cheer is also has a lighter scent throw. It's a nice scent and if Merry Mistletoe never existed I'd probably love it. It's not different enough for me not to compare it to the far superior Merry Mistletoe. Merry Mistletoe is my scent god if you haven't realized that yet.

Ten Digit Creations Sweater Weather
Scent Description: cuddle up with an aromatic blend of eucalyptus, juniper berry and fresh sage that celebrates the arrival of crisp autumn breezes
My Thoughts: This is a dupe to the B&BW candle. I don't really remember the B&BW scent, so I can't compare. I just purchased this based off the scent notes. I like this, but nothing about it smells really fall-like or "Sweater Weather" to me. This to me is just a straight forward clean and fresh scent. I love clean and fresh scents, but the name Sweater Weather makes me want a bit of something more to it. I'd probably like it more if it wasn't named Sweater Weather!

ScentSationals Raspberry Fizz
Scent Description: N/A
My Thoughts: Love, love, love this scent! I love fruity/effervescent scents and this is exactly that. The raspberry in this is tart, sharp, and sweet and has that amazing fizzy note that makes this fragrance pop. I highly recommend this one!

Ten Digit Creations Almost Paradise
Scent Description: sunshine in a bottle, with notes of sweet grass, blue agave, cucumber water, avocado, and cactus flower
My Thoughts: This is a beautiful scent. This is the perfect blend of beachy, airy, and watery scents rolled into one. It is clean and refreshing with a hint of sweetness from the sweet grass. Beachy scents can sometimes go either suntan lotion, coconut, or some other tropical fruity mix. This has none of those notes which I'm happy about. This is just straight up beautiful clean ocean breezes.

Until next week!

Pretty Jelly 3 Year Anniversary Shades

*I received the following products in exchange for my honest review.

I have more Pretty Jelly goodies to share with you on this Friday. This collection consists of three colors to celebrate Pretty Jelly's third anniversary. One of the best new trends in indie polish that I'm head over heels about this year are multi-chrome flakies, rainbow flakies, and metallic flakies. I'm a blingy girl, and these flakies take bling to the extreme. These three anniversary shades all have rainbow flakies in them and are blingtastic to the max!

Transcendent Triennium
Transcendent Triennium is an opaque gold holo glitter and rainbow flakies with an emphasis on the
pink/purple. Note: My camera really picks up on the pinky/purple flash on this, but in real life this does have an overall golden look to it as you can see on the sides of my nails.

Celestial
Celestial is an opaque silver holo glitter with rainbow flakies.

Amore
Amore is an opaque pink bronze glitter with pink, red, gold, and blue flakies

Collection: Pretty Jelly 3 Year Anniversary Shades 2015

Colors: These are all three absolute stunners. I love all the shades and they all offer something different. Celestial is cool toned, Amore is warm toned, and Transcendent Triennium kind of falls in between. You're getting different tones in all of these and the color shifts and flashes from these flakies are incredible!

Formula: Excellent opaque glitter formulas. I used 3 coats on all three and got full opacity. I think some of you could get away with 2. These glitters cover the nail easily and evenly.

Price: This is going to be releases as a set on on Monday 10/26. You can buy the set for $32.40 (10% off) between 10/26-11/2. These will be available for individual purchase on Pretty Jelly's anniversary 11/10 for $12 each. You can purchase these from Pretty Jelly's etsy site.

Overall: These are incredible glitter/flakie combination colors. I love the depth and complexity each of these shades have. Again, another thoughtful collection from Pretty Jelly. If you love glitter and flakies you will not be disappointed by these shades. They're a must have in my book!

Lemming Lacquer Curiouser & Curiouser!

I think I've mentioned a few times I'm a big Alice in Wonderland fan. I'm not so much of a fan of the Disney version as I am the book and the 1985 TV movie version even though it scared the crap out of me when I was a child (see below). When I see Alice in Wonderland collection I'm a sucker for them. Naturally, Lemming Lacquer's Curiosities of Wonderland collection caught my eye, especially this one.

Curiouser & Curiouser!
Curiouser & Curiouser! is a sky blue holo with a subtle dusting of gold shimmer.

Collection: Lemming Lacquer Curiosities in Wonderland Spring 2015

Color: This is a beautifully pigmented sky blue holo. This color is rich and soft at the same time. I love the opacity of this pastel blue. It's creamy, not chalky, and perfectly perfect! The holo is effect is light to moderate which is perfect for this type of color. I love the subtle golden shimmer, which was hard to pick up on camera.

Formula: Excellent formula. This being a holo and a pastel one at that it was impeccable. I only needed 2 coats. It was smooth and so easy to apply.

Price: This is $12 and available on Lemming Lacquer's website.

Overall: I'm very impressed and in love with Curiouser & Curiouser! It's one thing to have a beautiful nail polish color, but to have a superior formula on top makes this one extra special. I have no complaints and love this beauty!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 *Golden* Paint Splatters

Back to the whole scare the crap out of me bit...Did anyone else see this version of Alice in Wonderland that was made for TV? I absolutely love it and love all the songs from it, but I rarely find anyone who has seen it or remembers it! It was hard for me to forget because the Jabberwocky scene scared me to death as a kid! Anyone remember this?

Indie InLinkz: Halloween Mani

It's time for another Indie InLinkz post. Indie InLinkz is a group of bloggers who do an indie-themed mani every month. This month's prompt was Halloween. I realized how few Halloween polishes I have especially in indie. I love Halloween, but for some reason I have very few Halloween nail polishes. I think it's because I don't really wear orange nail polish a lot, except Halloween. I tend to weed those out when I do my yearly nail polish purge, because I really only wear them once a year.

I did manage to find some other Halloween polishes or well, made some polishes work for Halloween to do my mani.

Polishes Used: Pretty Jelly I See Dead People, KBShimmer The Grape Beyond, and Sindie Pop! Jinkies!

I like it. I'm not sure any of it really goes together, but Halloween isn't really a sophisticated and done up holiday. It can be mix matched and silly!

Check out my other Indie Inlinkz friends Halloween manis below!

Pretty Jelly Halloween Glitters

*I received the following products in exchange for my honest review.

I have the second part of Pretty Jelly's Halloween collection to share with you today. These are 2 Halloween themed glitters that are right up my alley. I can never pass up a glitter! Both of these glitters are a unique twist to typical Halloween colors.

Pumpkin Carousel
Pumpkin Carousel is black jelly base with orange, green, purple, and teal holographic glitters. Also
contains shimmer like gold glitters that shift green.

Werewolf Tricks
Werewolf Tricks is a vampy red-orange flakes in a black jelly base filled with bronze and gold
holographic glitters.

Collection: Pretty Jelly Halloween Glitters 2015

Color: These are great Halloween glitters. They're really fun takes on traditional Halloween colors. Pumpkin Carousel has the orange glitter and the black base, but it's filled with green, purple, and holo graphic glitters. Werewolf Tricks is an amazing color shifting glitter. This is packed with amazing glitters that look more pink-purple or gold-amber dependent on lighting and angle.

Formula: The formulas on both of these was good. I only needed 2 coats for each swatch. Pumpkin Carousel you may need some extra care getting those orange glitters out. They tend to want to stick to the sides, so let your bottle sit upside down for a bit will help. It also dries to a bumpy finish, so 2 coats of top coat would be idea. Werewolf Tricks was an easy breezy 2 coater that applied beautifully.

Price: These are $10 each on the Pretty Jelly etsy site.

Overall: I love these glitters. I love creative and thoughtfully made nail polishes and these both are exactly that. I love when makers create colors I couldn't imagine or think up myself. These are both fun and festive colors of Halloween and the fall season itself!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 10/11/15-10/18/15

I first got into wax melts early this year. I pretty much swore off candles then with the exception of fall/holiday candles. Candles do take up a lot of space when you have small living quarters and they can get expensive. I failed my candle swear off this week, and bought my first few candles probably since last January. I guess I didn't entirely fail as I did make an exception for fall and holiday candles, but still.

I'm not going to be big into candles at all like I used to, but I did clean out some stuff, and made an area to store all my wax melts and candles. Also, Bath & Body Works coupons and their candle sales were burning a hole in my pocket. I'm still all about wax melts, but I don't think I can ditch candles completely especially during fall and winter.

This week I burned some candles and melted some wax!

Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin
Scent Description: An inviting mixture of harvest pumpkin, sweet vanilla cream & spicy cinnamon stick
My Thoughts: I'm not a big fan of bakery scents, and almost all pumpkin scents as of late go that route. Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin while it does have that vanilla note to it, doesn't smell very bakery to me at all. It's not sugary sweet, but to my nose a simple blend of pumpkin and cinnamon. It smells like Thanksgiving Day when you wake up early to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I know that's not really helpful of a description, but it is that comforting familiar scent of Thanksgiving. It's warm, inviting, and cozy. It's a nostalgic scent to me, that I absolutely love.

Bath & Body Works Winter
Scent Description: Pine needles, icy mandarin & winter woods capture the magic of glittering icicles & sparkling snow
My Thoughts: This has been one of my staple winter scents since it was released a few years ago. The best way I can describe it as if you went outside on a snowy day and could smell peopoles fireplaces burning outside in the distance. It's crisp, refreshing, and has a natural campfire/smoky smell to that balances it out. The smokiness is not in the slightest bit overpowering or unpleasant, it blends in so naturally with the other scent notes.

Ten Digit Creations Lavender Lemongrass
Scent Description: relaxing lavender mixed with fresh cut lemongrass
My Thoughts: This is exactly who it's described. I love aromatherapy and lemongrass and lavender are very common oils/scents used in that. This has that soothing blend of the lavender with the sharpness of the lemongrass. It's an herbal scent rather than a sweet lavender or lemongrass. I really like it. I melted this in my bedroom and found it perfect scent for settling down at bedtime.

Just Makes Scents Merry Mistletoe
Scent Description: A blend of citrus, blue spruce, and frosted cranberries create this perfect holiday scent
My Thoughts: I mentioned last week that Bath & Body Works Merry Mistletoe candle is my favorite scent in the entire universe. It's always a toss up on if B&BW will bring it back each year, and I really wanted needed it in a wax melt. I did some searching, and found a vendor who makes it. This is a spot on dupe. Merry Mistletoe to me smells like orange juice, cranberry juice, champagne, and spruce all mixed together. It is a juicy, effervescent, and festive scent. It is absolutely delightful and this is my signature holiday scent. I burn/melt this so much I become noseblind to it. I love it so much I have to take breaks from it so I can smell it again!

Ten Digit Creations: Lavender Mint
Scent Description: fresh lavender paired with notes of peppermint and spearmint
My Thoughts: This is in the same vein as Lavender Lemongrass, it's just mint not lemongrass. It's a very herbal and aromatherapy-like scent. It's soothing and calming. It's not as intense as lemongrass as lemongrass as very pungent, but it's still a strong scent. I like this one, another favorite bedtime scent.

Bath & Body Works Sparking Pear Riesling
Scent Description: A bright pairing of crisp Riesling grape & juicy California pears.
My Thoughts: A common theme in scents I like (as you see with Merry Mistletoe) are juicy, bubbly, and fruity scents. Sparkling Pear Riesling is exactly that. You get strong notes of the pear and that sparkling wine scent along with it. Lovely scent, not up there with Merry Mistletoe, but I love it too.

Bath & Body Works candles can be purchased in store or online. I highly recommend only buying their candles when they're 2 for $24. They have candle sales frequently. Also, sign up for their emails, so you can get coupons!

I purchased Just Makes Scents through etsy and Ten Digit Creations can be found here.

Happy Sunday!

Third Week Throwbacks: Zoya Yara

Green used to be on my "Do Not Wear Ever" list as far as nail polish goes. I still have memories of when I first got into nail polish in 2008, I wore a green nail polish to a class, and I was passing out papers. When I went to pass this handout to this one girl she stared at my nails and went "Eww green"? I was convinced then I shouldn't wear green nail polish.

It took a good 1-2 years after that to realize that I can wear green and green is awesome. I will say green is a tricky color for me. Greens do not go great with my skin tone, but it's a matter of finding the right greens. I was convinced at first that this Zoya fall green from a few years back wouldn't work on me. I was very wrong, and it's probably one of my favorite polishes ever!

Yara
Yara is a muted olive green with a golden micro fine glitter.

Collection: Zoya Mirrors Collection Fall 2011

Color: I would never expect I could pull off an olive green at all. This color is fantabulous. I adore this green .I find it very flattering. I love the smokey tones to this and the gold glitter. This is an excellent green polish. It's chic and sophisticated and so perfect for this time of year.

Formula: Excellent creamy 2 coat formula.

Price: This is $9 from Zoya. You may be able to find it cheaper from e-tailers.

Overall: I always have to remind myself to break this color out because I forget how amazing it is. I love this shade of green, and I'm so happy it's flattering on me. The color is great and I love that gold glitter of course!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 *Golden* Paint Splatters

Third Week Throwbacks: Avon Nude & Infused

I think one of my biggest struggles with nail polish has been finding nude nail polish that works with my skin tone. That's followed up by finding a nude nail polish that isn't sheer or too chalky. There are so many nude polishes out there that are those super sheer nudes or neutrals or these very yellow toned nude cremes. I dislike both. The sheer ones don't build up the and the yellow toned nude cremes look horrific on my skin tone.

I have such a hard time finding nude shades that I think I only have 2 in my collection that work with my skin tone. When ever I'm feeling a little glittered out and just want a palette cleanser I always go-to this nude polish by Avon.

Nude & Infused
Nude & Infused is a pinky-nude with a soft purple-pink shimmer.

Collection: Avon Enchanted Spring 2012

Color: This is my perfect my nails but better shade. It has pink and flesh tones to it that make it very friendly for cooler skin tone people. I also love the shimmer! If I'm going to do a nude I want it to have a little bit of something special to it. This is a subtle shimmer, but just enough to give that teensy bit of uniqueness and fun.

Formula: This is 3 coat formula that is very smooth and easy to apply. I'd say this is in between a creme and jelly. It's not a jelly or a crelly, but it has the element of sheerness to it without being a sheer polish that keeps this looking soft. I sometimes fine nude cremes can be a bit stark against the skin, so I really like the finish of Nude & Infused.

Price: Sadly, I can't find this available anywhere anymore, which sucks because I think this would a great polish for people who still struggle to find their perfect nude.

Overall: This is hands down my favorite nude nail polish of all time. It gets a lot of use out of me. I wear this a few times every year and I don't tire of it. I love the soft look of this and how it compliments my skin tone.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 *Golden* Paint Splatters

Third Week Throwbacks: China Glaze Foxy

A little late start to throwback week, but better late than never! Again, I notice this week I gravitate toward polishes releases in 2010-2011. I think those were the golden years as far as mainstream nail polish goes. I have one today from China Glaze's fall 2011 collection.

Foxy
Foxy is a rusty red with golden-copper flecked shimmer.

Collection: China Glaze Vintage Vixen Fall 2010

Color: This is the absolute perfect fall red. I love reds like this in fall. This is has some of those warm brown tones added to it that really warm and spice up this red shade. The shimmer is great, it borders on frosty, but I don't think in a bad way. It gives this color a neat metallic effect.

Formula: Nice formula. I used 2 coats.

Price: You can still find this one online usually in the $4-$8 range.

Overall: I love Foxy. It's a color I break out every year when I'm craving a fall red. It's a beautiful glowing red that never goes out of style for me.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Pretty Jelly Halloween Holos

* I received the following products in exchange for my honest review.

I have some Halloween inspired polishes to share with you today by Pretty Jelly. Pretty Jelly is an indie brand created by Liz. I reviewed some of her first polishes a few years ago. This collection is inspired by some famous horror movie taglines. I have to be honest. I like Halloween, but I like cutesy fun Halloween. Scary Halloween isn't my thing. I'm a big chicken. The "Don't Blink" episode of Doctor Who had me up 2 nights in row without sleep with all the lights on. I'm too easily scared!

On to the scary themed polishes!

I See Dead People
I See Dead People a strong black linear holo with strong red shimmer inspired by the Sixth Sense movie poster.

Here's Johnny!
Here's Johnny! is a blood red linear holo inspired by the color of Johnny's red jacket from The Shining.

They're Here
They're Here is a pale blue linear holo with blue shimmer inspired by the pallid glow of the TV screen in The Poltergeist.

Collection: Pretty Jelly Halloween Holos 2015

Collection: This is a great collection of colors! They all have a strong holo effect, and I like that they're not traditional Halloween colors. I love the added red shimmer in I See Dead People it really elevates just your standard black holo. Here's Johnny is a great blood red. They're Here is a beautiful icy blue holo that I am in absolutely in love with. I am going to be wearing this color a lot this winter.

Formula: All of the formulas in this collection are excellent. They're opaque holos that I only needed 2 coats for each swatch.

Price: These are $12 individually or $36 for the set. You can purchase them on Pretty Jelly's etsy site.

Overall: Beautiful holo collection. The inspiration of these polish is scary, but they polishes are not scary. I love that these are not traditional Halloween colors. I can see myself wearing these colors during different times of the year. The holo effect in these is great and the formulas are on point.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Do you like scary Halloween or cutesy fun Halloween?

Happy Monday!
